Makin' It Happen

On Mondays, I am typically ready to tackle the week. A fresh start, a clean slate. I think I get more accomplished on Monday than any other weekday (when we're talking about housecleaning/cooking sort of accomplishments).

The most structured part of my day is the morning. I have a set time for waking up, time with God, feeding Squishy and working out. After that, the day has more eb and flow.

Just before feeding Squishy in the morning, I (hopefully) write out a daily to-do list. On Mondays, I write out both a weekly to-do list and a to-do list for the day.

Why all the lists?

1) I like lists. I'm just quirky like that.

2) I am forgetful.

3) They help me prioritize.

On my daily list, I write down all sorts of little details that I need to remember. The weekly list contains less detail and focuses on the bigger things that can tend to get shoved aside because I feel like I have too many dishes to wash.

Here's an example of my bare-bones weekly to-do list for this week. I'm going out of town to visit my parents Monday-Wednesday, which will be an awesome break from the typical Monday housework routine. Best of all, I'm carpooling with a dear friend and her two youngsters.

In the midst of all my list making and doing, I always have to remind myself that it's not checking off the list that validates my day. I am not measured by how clean the floors are...or even if I paid the bills on time. I'm looking for ways to be efficient, but if my eyes aren't on Jesus, no amount of efficiency will matter.

(My perfectionist side has to be retold. Do you need this reminder, too?)

What's the biggest task on your list this week?

You can post your To-Do list over at Ammie's place, where she hosts Make It Happen Monday each week! If you're a list-lover, you should check it out (haha, no pun intended!). :D

  1. OH, have such a good time at your parents! I love when there is a slight change in scheduling and you get to say see ya later, housework!

Alicia, you should see my house right now. We were at a birthday party in the city last night until 8pm, and when we got home, it was just one of those, get everyone undressed, into pjs, and bed, sort of nights. I didn't care where shoes, socks, bottles, anything went. It looks like a hurricane came through here. So as soon as I am done having my coffee (minimum of 2 cups to function), I am off to fix this mess!!!!!!! (and then get to the rest of my list!)

Thanks so much for the link up and awesome list!!!! You are such an organizational inspiration!

  3. I LOVE lists. Seriously, if I don't make lists I will forget everything. Just ask my husband. ;)

Mondays, however, are not kind days to me. In general the house is a mess from the weekend and my girls tend to go crazy on Mondays. I blame it on Jonathan. They love him SOOO much that when he goes back to work after the weekend, they kinda loose it. So Mondays are general spent getting them back into a routine, which means the house is the last on the list. Thankfully, the last two Sundays we've cleaned house so I go into the week more prepared. :)

  4. I like the parts about not being measured by the clean floors, and needing to keep your eyes on Jesus.

I hope you have a wonderful time with your grandparents! And what fun to get to travel with your friend :)

  5. I'm a list person too. It makes me feel like I've accomplished something when I can cross it off my list. Great week planned, sounds like fun!

  6. Ammie, I'm with you! Sometimes I look at my house and think, "Seriously, I have a homemaking blog? How ironic." :O Time to get busy!

Sarah, I don't think Squishy is big enough to really notice Andrew's absence...that would really be a challenge, though.
