"Meeting" Baby {Try New Adventures Thursday!}

By mid-pregnancy, I am eager beyond measure to "meet" our baby and find out the gender. The patience of couples who wait until the baby's birthday to discover the sex floors me. How can you stand the suspense?

Yesterday, tummy butterfly-full, Andrew and I made our way to my 20 week ultrasound appointment. We were so delighted to see our little one on the screen...kicking and yawning and basically being cute.

Baby boy #2, 20 week ultrasound

With both babies so far, we have gone to our mid-way ultrasound with both a boy and a girl name picked out. When the gender is revealed, it feels like meeting our baby...and we give them their name. I absolutely love being able to call the baby by name after that point.

And yesterday? We met our second baby boy!

1st outfits

What a sweet day. Squish is going to have a brother! I think I floated through most of yesterday.

When I wasn't floating, I was relaying to my husband the fact that we really need to move North. With two little boys, we will be spending huge amounts of time outdoors--we need to move someplace with cooler weather! My hot-pregnant-lady 2 cents, anyway.

Our second tradition after we find out the baby's sex is to buy the baby his 1st two outfits.  Can you tell from the ones I picked that I like to cuddle babies (they say "Mommy's Hugger" and "Snuggle Bear")?

Two boys! What an adventure. Didn't Dobson write a book on raising boys? I should pick that up...

After last week's break, I'm happy to be back to Thursday's round-up of adventures. Since we're back home, I'll be tweeting and commenting on your posts with much more consistency! Can't wait to see what you have to share--simply link up your blog post, link back to Alicia's Homemaking, and visit a few other participants and leave comments!

P.S. In hindsight, I should add that of course everyone thinks differently about when to find out the gender of their baby! There are fun stories either way...(I'm just impatient). Hubby wants to wait to find out once we have a boy and a girl...the suspense will probably do me in. ;)

  1. How exciting! Congrats on boy #2!

As of now, we want to wait to find out the gender of our babies at birth. I personally think it's a little weird to refer to an unborn baby by name. But, I'm not pregnant yet, so that could change. :)

  5. Congratulations!! So exciting to have another little boy. I will say, I was so excited to have two girls back to back {and imagine having two boys back to back to be similar}, just because of the natural friendship that they do/will have.

Oh... and we didn't find out with Hannah what we were having. It was hard in the beginning, but it added a really fun element to the whole things. ;)

  6. Very exciting! What a blessing! I had my 20 week ultrasound about a month ago and we didn't find out. We had decided not to beforehand, but I half expected myself to change my mind and ask the ultrasound technician to tell me in the middle of the ultrasound. But I was so excited just seeing the baby that it wasn't too tempting. It's driving my family crazy - they want to know so they can go shopping! I'll admit - buying only gender neutral clothing is restricting!

I do envy you that you get to think of and call the baby by name! I think that must definitely help with baby bonding!

  7. Congrats! We couldn't wait to find out either. People say they didn't have trouble decorating the nursery or buying clothes, but because we didn't reveal what we were having we got 'boy' clothes and blankets w/o gift receipts. (Although we knew, certain family members didn't what to know, which mean no one could know...except our coworkers and friends who didn't know our family...and they had to warn us if they were getting us girl clothes because we couldn't open those in front of those who didn't know...*whew*) Anyhow, I just went to a bear-themed baby shower on Saturday...cute bear stuff. Cuddling with newborns...*sigh* my kids need some cousins, quick! =p Anyhow, that is the most darling ultrasound pic!

  8. I'd be too impatient to NOT find out! I know some family members are going to try convincing us to not find out, but I will simply ignore them ;)

  10. Congratulations! I am one who does NOT like to know our babies' genders while pregnant. My husband however does, so I obliged him with #1 (girl) and with #2, he found out but I did not. He did an excellent job keeping our second daughter a secret. I was pleasantly surprised when she was born! I love a surprise.

I'm a new follower. Love your blog!

  13. Aww brothers! I used to want a boy then a girl but now think it would be fun to have the first two kids same gender. What a fun tradition, those outfits are really cute!

I didn't think I'd want to know the gender up until around the 20 week then I suddenly changed my mind. We didn't pick his name until he was 1 day old and we didn't go with the name I was set on. However, I can see how it would be wonderful to call the baby by name. We always called Archer baby bird but not I can't imagine calling him that.

  17. Congrat Alicia and Family! I too and pregnant and have enjoyed sharing your adventures with you. I am currently 30 weeks...and we too have named our precious little boy and have been eagerly waiting for his arrival in mid-October! We live in Texas and have had record breaking heat since May...no rain and over 100 degree weather daily! What amazes me is the personality displayed by our unborn child! He is so responive to outside sitmilus! Children are truely a miracle from conception till birth! Mine even "hides" and gets still when big sister comes around and kicks and moves like crazy for his Daddy!

  19. That's awesome! I "wanted" two boys back to back and I have one of each, which of course I LOVE, but people always think that we MUST be done having kids now. As if the ultimate goal is to have a boy and a girl and there is no other reason to expand your family. Ha ha.
