Homemade Cinnamon Lattes

Since the weather is (supposed to be) getting cooler, I'm moving on from my beloved iced coffee to something warm and cozy--homemade cinnamon lattes! They're super easy and still the perfect coffee/milk ratio for this pregnant lady.

1st, grind up your coffee with a little bit of cinnamon sprinkled in (I just eyeball it...this was for 2 cups worth of strong coffee) and brew up your coffee. Thanks to my clever friend Heather for passing along the cinnamon idea!

I know that's a funny picture because the coffee in my grinder is already ground. I try to buy whole bean coffee, but this time ground coffee was BOGO. Plus, it's organic and fair trade. I like to grind it again anyway because it makes it seem fresher to me. It might be in my head.

Next, fill up your coffee mug around 3/4 of the way full with milk (and maybe some half and half! Ok, definitely some half and half). Microwave the milk until it's hot, but not boiling. You can also do this on the stovetop if you're the non-microwaving type. I heat my milk for 1 1/2 minutes in my tiny 700 watt microwave.

Next, sweeten to taste.

Then top the mug off with the brewed coffee (normally around 1/2 cup, maybe a little less).

Ta-da! If you have whipped cream, feel free to lavish it on top. I was in too much of a hurry and wanted to actually drink my latte hot, so there are no glorious pictures of a whipped-cream-topped-cup with delightful coffee dripping down the side. Forgive me...I needed some coffee.

These are the sweet beginnings of a cozy breakfast. Drink your latte along with a baguette covered in butter and honey. Ah yes...

I thought my breakfast might not look super balanced to the blog reader's eye, so I threw in some clementine slices for good measure.

There. Happy breakfast.

  1. I just read the other day that re-grinding pre-ground coffee releases the oils and results in a better brew....so its not just in your head!

  3. I have cinnamon in my coffee almost every day! A fun coffee toy is a turkish brewer which makes the coffee like esspresso. Ill send you a picture on twitter. makes seriously amazing lattes!

  5. Sounds lovely. Though, I rarely drink anything with my coffee, I do like me some spices. My favorite is adding cocoa powder and cinnamon. Hmmm...
