Beginners Crocheted Baby Hat {Try New Adventures Thursday!}

The I'm-40-weeks-pregnant-and-can-someone-please-get-this-baby-out-of-me restlessness has hit. It started after Christmas when I no longer had a holiday to plan for. Since then, we've been going for a family walk every morning, I'm bouncing on the labor ball frequently, and periodically I'll look up articles on ways to naturally induce labor (even though I know baby will come when baby will come). The day after Christmas, I decided that I needed a project.

You know all of those adorable crocheted hats that you see in a lot of newborn photography? Like this...

(Haha, the "You Need This" caption cracks me up! Way to work on a pregnant mama's hormones!)

I've been wanting (not needing) to get a similar hat for baby boy for all the times I subject him to mini newborn photography sessions. So I found this tutorial from Hooked On Needles and decided to give it a shot.

Crocheting a hat for baby...

For my 1st hat, I used some basic, soft, medium gray yarn and a size I crochet hook. I had to redo my first few rows because I followed the instructions incorrectly, but after that, the project flowed smoothly.

Coming along. Has really been good medicine for my restlessness.

I finished in one day! Which, when it comes to crochet projects, is probably a record for me.

And it's finished! Yay!!!!

Ta-Da!!!

I must say, crocheting a hat is incredible medicine for I'm-ready-to-pop restlessness. We're taking this little hat along with us to the hospital, and I can't wait to see it on our sweet baby's head. :)

  1. Oh, I love this!!! I might give this a try. Most things I see are for knitting, and I don't know how to knit. I barely know how to crochet, but at least I wouldn't be completely learning from the start! I want to make a winter hat for Susannah, too... maybe I can make them matching hats :)

  2. When I first saw this blog post for a split second I though "wait what! She had the baby & didn't tell me!?!" Silly I know. But anyway...that hat is super cute. Can you make those for my kids when I have them?

  4. Hmmm...makes me think I could possible do something like this. I have never crocheted before, but I have knitted. My grandma has knitted everything known to mankind. haha

    My TNAT link up is not an adventure that I would have had liked (is that wording correct?) to have this week, but oh well... hope that baby is here to celebrate the new year!!

  5. Super cute! I crocheted little hats for my kids too. In fact, they still wear them...stretched to the max! :)

  8. Looks like most of the hats that inspired you are knitted, not crocheted. Yours is sweet, too.
