Dirt Cake

Here's what I've been up to in the kitchen today...

Dirt Cake
(a.k.a. Oreo Pudding Parfaits, if you wish. Another childhood favorite of mine. I would request this on my birthday as a kid.)

This recipe is SUPER simple, so you don't really need step-by-step pictures, but I think it's fun, so that's what you're getting. :)

What you'll need:

1 lb Oreos, crushed
1 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup butter, softened
8 oz cream cheese, softened
3 1/3 cups milk
2 pkg. 3.4 oz vanilla instant pudding
1 (8 oz) package cool whip, thawed

First, eat an Oreo. After all, there is 1 lb, 2 oz worth of Oreos in most packages. So there's extra for the cook. Don't muzzle the ox, I say.

Then, crush the Oreos in your food processor. If you're me, spend 15 minutes trying to figure out how the food processor works....that's how long it's been since I used it!! Shame. Note: food processors are NOT complicated...

I got it! Here are some of the crushed Oreos.

In another bowl, cream together the butter, cream cheese, and powdered sugar.

Like so...

Then in another bowl, whisk together the pudding mix, milk, and cool whip.

Until smooth.

Then mix the two together.

Lovely.

The next step is to layer the Oreos and the pudding mixture like so: Oreos, pudding, Oreos, pudding..etc....ending with a layer of Oreos on the top. You can do this in a large bowl or in individual cups. I typically do it in a bowl, since it's much faster, but this time I used cups since these are for a party. :)

And now we have the finished product: YUM.

If doing this in cups, the recipe will make around 12 cups, as shown here.

Happy day. :)

Love, Alicia

  1. So yummy. Perhaps that's what I'll make for my daughter's May birthday party. Would be fun with a garden theme. :)

Couple of things lost in translation on me, being in Scotland and all that, vanilla pudding (is this the equivalent of Angels Delight anyone??), and cool whip - is this cream??
