Saving Organs


That's what I did today.

No...not the ones you pull out of a whole fryer. Human ones. A heart that was still beating in a body that had already passed on.

But maybe it will beat for someone else.

My patient was gone from the moment I set foot on the unit today. I spent the day working like mad to preserve the organs inside that patient's shell of a body.

I'll probably never know (this side of heaven) who will benefit from those organs. But I'm thankful to have been able to participate in the process.
