How Do You Schedule Your Day?

It seems like we are in a phase of life right now where having a set schedule every week is not something that would work for us. However, I do find it helpful to have some sort of structure to our day (aside from the built in structure of Squishy's naps/awake time).

So, I've taken to jotting down a quick "time frame" list either before I go to bed, or early the next morning.

Like so....

And I have been amazed at how helpful this little list has been! First off, it helps me remember realistic time frames for things. I tend to think, "Oh, I need to get this, this, this, and this done" and then expect it to all get done before lunch. When it doesn't, I feel frustrated.

But when I've written out a list with time frames, I've already taken a moment to realize that getting everything done is not realistic.

And then I stay "on task" more to get the things I can do accomplished (instead of jumping from one unfinished task to the next, which I tend to do).

This is pretty basic, but it works for me!

P.S. Are you seeing a trend with me and lists/notes?

  2. I like this list! Sometimes I do this in my head but writing it down would help; like you said, not feeling bad for not getting it all done before lunch.

Thanks for visiting my blog - I was thinking about putting the night I was in labor but I was really out of it and slept - plus the outcome was so nice I feel bad saying it was one of the worst nights of my life.

  3. Alicia,
This is a great idea! Even though I have my FLYLady control journal. I do have a plain notebook to jot down some unexpected things to do for the day. And it works quite well with me too. Another bonus, if you keep it up with this method, by the end of the month or year, you could look back and see how your days went.

  4. This is a great idea. I write down the things I need to do, but I need to add some estimated times!

  6. I like the idea of identifying loose timeframes, I've never made my list that way, but I'll try it!

  7. I am a list person too. I still have one of those planners they make you use in middle school to remember your homework...mine just has chores and errands and things like that on it...a regular calendar is too small for me. However, I get frustrated when I do a lot in a day and the calendar doesn't show it...the list helps me realize I was productive and helps me make sure I remember to "play" too. The calendar however lets me see the week as a whole and group tasks so that I don't end up running errands every day but maybe just two days...love having a whole afternoon to take the kids to the beach or the park for more than an hour during the week...every week.
