After our conversation, I found myself thinking about my mom and dad. They are awesome parents. Not just in the "Happy Mother's Day, Mom, you're great" sense, but in the "I want to do a good parenting job like you did" sense. Not everyone can look to their own parents as examples for parenting their own children. I can, and I consider that such a sweet blessing.
And, as you know, I'm proof of their impeccable job. *wink*
Faithfully married for over 26 years...
(Their faithfulness and love for each other was one of their best gifts to us, as their kids. My dad--loud, red-headed, hilarious, and big-hearted--used to tell us, "I'm a one woman man. Nothing that wiggles it's way through the mall is going to get my attention--I love your mother.")
26 years, 6 trips to the labor and delivery room, 20 years of homeschooling, countless talks, a healthy amount of hide-wearing, endless hours in the kitchen, 2 college graduations, 1 daughter's wedding, and one grandchild later...
and all I can say is that you can count on the fact that I'm going to be on the phone with my mother and father in the coming years getting some priceless advice when it comes to the job I have in front of me!

What a treasure! I hope I leave that same mark on my children. You have been very blessed!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!! I was (for the most part) raised in a single-parent household. It was not ideal, but as a mother now, I really appreciate my mom's parenting skills/style/whatever. I hope our son will say the same thing!
ReplyDeleteYou ARE blessed for certain! Great post!!
ReplyDeleteI would so love to sit down with your mom and pick her brain!
Have a great weekend!

What a sweet blessing to have. Your parents are a stunning couple as well. I just love the expression on our mom's face in her wedding picture.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post! :) I'm also a huge fan of my parents, so it's nice to hear someone else gush about their own parents.
ReplyDelete"and they will rise up and call her (them!) Blessed!" What a beautiful tribute to your parents!
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing to have such a heritage--both in parenting and in marriage! Examples are so powerful, and I have become much more thankful for the good things my parents instilled in me after having three children of my own.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet post for your parents. You are so right -- having a healthy relationship with your parents is a blessing that no everyone has!
ReplyDeleteHey Alicia...enjoy your parenting of your little one...it's a wonderful time to be sure...how wonderful to have such a godly example.
ReplyDeleteI have learned many lessons from even just watching my parents. It's great to have a wonderful example to follow.
ReplyDeleteOh, and about Melody hair...I actually have trimmed her bangs a few times when she was a baby, but this was her first real cut! We have fun hair stories around here that I have blogged about and more that I will have to blog about later.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Certainly a blessing! Sounds like your parents have done a wonderful job.
ReplyDeleteGreat parents are such a blessing! Thanks for sharing yours with us!
ReplyDeleteMy parents taught me how much friendship is a part of being married. They are each other's best friends, and pretty much always talked things through. They enjoy each other's company, and know when to give each other space. They weren't the best of parents, but they did their best. Heck, I think I grew up okay ;)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had wonderful parents, and are passing on the values to your children :)
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and thanks for stopping by my blog :)
I'm gonna have to stalk your blog more often! I don't know how old you are (I'll be 25), but my parents have been married 27 years, I'm the oldest of 10 kids, and we were all (still are) homeschooled.
ReplyDeleteso sweet...so good to know you Alicia. Getting to know your folks is a blessing. They are all that and fun...just to reiterate!
