Try New Adventures Thursday: My Falling Out With Jillian Michaels

Alternate Title: The Post-Baby Workout

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

At this time last week, it had been two months since I had done anything resembling a workout (besides walking). Squishy is 7 months old, and while I have lost some weight in the months since his birth, it's definitely not enough to put me back in my pre-baby clothes. And let's just say it's not exactly in the budget to buy me a new wardrobe.

Wardrobe aside, my body is telling me it's time to start getting back in shape. The move is finished, and so is my list of excuses.

So last week I geared up, pulled out my Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred video, and had at it.

Oh. my. goodness.

I literally could not sit down without extreme pain for the entirety of the next day. Jillian is mean. Heartless, really. We aren't speaking.

She's probably relieved, because most of the time I'm just urging her to wear more clothes in those workout videos.

But moving right along...

I went a little crazy with that first workout when I should have eased into it a bit more. But I learned my lesson. I've toned it down, and have figured out a new routine that's working for me now--running every other day in the morning (otherwise it's too hot) before Squishy wakes up and before Andrew leaves for class.

So that's my latest new adventure--getting back in shape post-baby! All you moms out there...what worked for you? How long did it take to lose the baby weight? Was it easier when you were nursing or after you stopped nursing?

Where has your adventuring taken you? To the kitchen? To the neighbor's house? To the mailbox? To another country? Big and small, link up your adventures/learning/new experiences. Link up, link back to me, and have fun reading about others adventures...and if you're not a blogger, chime in using the comments!

  1. Hi Alicia,
I linked up that I'm trying composting and made my first compost bucket.
I feel for you and your pain. I'm getting ready to start (restart) Jazzercise and I know I will hurt for 3 or 4 days off the bat. Just think what good things you are doing for your body by exercising.

  4. Good job on getting back to working out! My weight didn't come off until I was finished nursing. I bought an excellent double jogging stroller so I could take both boys with me on a walk or run. Running always works best for me to keep the weight off. If you don't dig running, get a stroller and go walking with Squishy. Or try the P90X workout DVDs by Tony Horton...they're really good. Good luck in your workout adventures!!!

  5. Kudos on getting back into the routine. I got a jogging stroller for my birthday in March when my son was about 9 mo. It has been great to be able to go on walks and runs with him and my husband because as you know, it is hard to find time, and you can't always fit it in during nap times. Good luck to you!

  6. Thanks for your encouragement, ladies!
Nancy, I hope Jazzercise goes well for you! My sister-in-law used to do that.
Inspired2Cook: P90X intimidates me just a little! Haha.
Lindsay, I am thinking about taking William in the stroller, except I don't have a jogging one. I'm probably just going to try it in the regular stroller I have.

  7. Good for you!!! I have that DVD as well but only did it about a week. Shame on me! Maybe I should try and new adventure and stick it out!! It took me 11 months to get back to pre-baby weight (notice I didn't say "shape") and I was nursing. I'm trying to wean now so I'll let you know if that makes any difference. Keep up the good work!!!!

  8. Oh, I am so with you on all of it. I am 4 months postpartum and can't afford a new wardrobe so I am just sporting the muffin top look in the mean time. I definitely lost all the weight while nursing with my first, but this time it looks like I am going to have to work for it. Glad to have found your blog by the way.
