Top Ten Reasons To Fill Out Your Planner

Do you see this calendar? It's empty. That is not a good thing.

Top Ten Reasons I Need to Write Everything Down

1) Because last week I completely forgot a scheduled lunch date. I would have stood my friend up (thankfully she called me)! I asked my husband later that day, "Have I always been like this?" "Just since the baby, honey" he replied. Fabulous.

2) So that things are done in a timely manner. Like returning library books. Or paying the bills (just a minor detail).

3) To avoid multiple trips into town for various small and/or BIG things. What a gas drainer!

4) So I remember whose birthday is when and whose birthday is whose. Did I lose you on that last part? Last year I wrote my brother's August birthday down in my calendar. His name is Andrew. When the August date approached, I started asking my husband (also named Andrew) what he wanted to do for his birthday (which is actually in March) and wasn't he going to take the day off work? I received a blank stare. I was so busted.

5) Not only do I need to write things down, I need to write them down in multiple places. In the last two weeks I have twice lost a friend's number that I wrote on a scrap piece of paper (why didn't I put it in my phone?).

6) To prevent moldy laundry.

7) To help reign in my mind when I pray. Prayer lists are wonderful.

8) To keep track of pantry inventory/freezer inventory. I actually don't have a freezer inventory list yet. Maybe because my freezer is so small. But still, it would help me when I menu plan.

9) So that the holidays don't sneak up out of nowhere! Seriously, sometimes I forget December comes around every year.

10) So that we bring matches next time we go camping. And a power cord. And a broom. And a lantern. And camera batteries. And mosquito repellent...

What do you need to write down?

Obviously, I need lists in my life. I kind of like them, too (shhhhh, don't tell). So I'm linked up to OhAmanda's Top Ten Tuesday, Tackle It Tuesday, and Anti-Procrastination Tuesday.

  2. I so need to write everything down too!! I write some stuff on my calendar, some stuff on floating to-do lists, some stuff in binders....but I need to compile them all in one place! I used to have a planner but I need one ~ you've inspired me! Too many sources...I need one central one! I love your honest candid humor....you are not alone!

    Blessings on your week,

  3. Yes, I have to write everything down and in multiple places! Like you: library books due, birthdays, bills, laundry (what day my kids will run out of clean pajamas). As the saying goes, I'd lose my head if it weren't screwed on. :-)

  7. Lol, this is so true. I keep one calendar hanging in the kitchen and one on my phone. They are both used equally and I check them up to eachother every other day. I don't forget much, but I do feel like the weeks are flying by reather fast.
I get e-mail from the library when it is time to take back the books, but then I go online and check them out again and again and again. The books are stuck at my house for ever.

  8. I can totally relate! And the older I get, the more I need to make lists. I forgot my husband had a meeting this evening. It was then that I realized I need to now put his meetings on my calendar. Ack! It's too much for one mom to keep up with!

BTW, I saw your Twitter name come across and had to come check you out. I love meeting other Alicias, especially when they spell their name the right way ;) Then I came to visit and discovered you like the color purple. Needless to say, I loved my visit. I look forward to getting to know you!

  9. In my queit times I often need to write out my prayers as I pray. It helps me keep my mind from wandering which it does A LOT! I had a doctor I saw once who was concerned with my quick rambling ask my husband if this was normal for me or if it could be a sign of something else going on!! (Of course my husband said there was no 'fixing' it since I had been that way since I could talk- not that he would know that long but my mom could agree to that!)
I also write down recipes in my own shorthand before I actually go in to make it, helps me remember it and less likely to skip a step or forget an ingredient!

  10. My planner was always empty - so I no longer have one, but I still have a need for lists - on the dry erase board on my refrigerator and in the memo pad feature of my cell phone - never leave the grocery list at home again!
