Try New Adventures Thursday: The Small Things

Maybe you've noticed that I'm trying to get organized around here. Last week I actually stuck to my new cleaning schedule. This week I haven't kept to it quite as well, but that's been ok (life happens!).

For some time now I've been following along with Rachel Anne's blog, Home Sanctuary (don't you just love that name?). On each weekday, Rachel Anne posts a "small thing" that you can do to help make your home a sanctuary for your family and others.

For the month of August, I've decided to join in and do the small things! Here's how it's looked so far:

Monday: The small thing was to spend 10 minutes cleaning out your email inbox. This was definitely needed for me, especially since I've started blogging.
Tuesday: Do something that communicates welcome to someone you love. When I read the small thing on Tuesday, I knew immediately what I needed to do. When my husband came home for lunch, I dropped everything that I was doing, swooped Squishy up in my arms, and together we have Andrew a tight "welcome home" hug (with some kisses scattered in). I could tell he felt loved. Sometimes I get caught up in what I'm cooking or in the "I-need-to-take-the-laundry-up-to-the-facility-and-can-you-watch-Squishy-for-me?" moments after he gets home. But welcoming is so important! It was a good reminder.
Wednesday: Rachel assigned us with giving our kitchen chairs a wipe down. Since Squishy has started eating solid foods, this was more needed than I thought.
Today: Oh no! Save me! The small thing is to iron something! I loathe the iron. *sigh* I guess this will be good for me.

If you want to join in, hop on over to Home Sanctuary each morning to find our your small task. Did I mention that each task is assigned points and the person with the most points at the end of the month wins a prize? But that's just an added bonus...it's not the main thing :)

So, I know my adventure for today is not loaded with thrill or mountain top moments, but I'm having fun with my small things nonetheless. How about you? What adventures/new experiences/trial-and-error moments have you had lately? Join in Try New Adventures Thursday by linking up (to your blog post), linking back to me, and checking out the adventures that others link up. :)

At a reader's request, I'm doing the picture linky today!

P.S. Curious how some of my previous adventures are coming along? A small update..
Post-Baby Workout: Well, I fell off the bandwagon for several weeks and got back to it last week. I've only worked out once this week...so no excuses for me today! :D
Reading My Old Book: I'm slowly but surely making my way through...the current topic is the rise of the papacy, which has always interested me.

  2. Great post! I like the tuesday topic, it's a great reminder. It usually comes to me naturally since I am always very excited when my sweetheart comes home, but sometimes if I am too involved in something I would not be able to stop what I am doing.

  3. Alicia, thanks for blogging about your adventures in home sanctuary! So sorry about today's Small Thing - urgh! I knew there would be wailing and gnashing of teeth - and that's just my own, ha.

I can see you winning the ListPlanit prize - you're on your way.

Also, loved the post on "all grown up" (wiping tear)

  4. EEP! How did the ironing event go? I hate ironing too. I would rather wear something wrinkly than iron it... but when it comes to my kids clothes? Weird... I find myself ironing things. HAHAHA

I will add your blog carnival to my list and see about joining in sometime! I love finding new topics to blog about. :)

    Take care!
