My Menu Planning Method

Chicken and Veggie Stir-Fry
Last week I shared tons of menu planning resources with you, so this week, I wanted to share my method for menu planning (not rocket science here!).

Step 1: Look online (Southern Savers, baby!) to see what is on sale at my local stores. I particularly look to see what meat/fresh produce is on sale, and then I can plan our main meals around those items (or meat that I have stocked in the freezer).

Step 2: Peruse my recipe binder and recently bookmarked online recipes to put my menu together. As I decide on each recipe, I write down any needed ingredients on my grocery list. Sometimes I plan our meals using themed nights, such as crockpot dinner, mexican, asian, a "new" recipe, vegetarian night, etc! Pizza night is a staple. :D This week I am trying two new recipes--Chicken and Brown Rice Casserole and Hashbrown Casserole. I typically make very few casseroles, so I'm curious to see what we think about these.

Step 3: Go grocery shopping! Don't forget your list. :)

Step 4: Relax, because the guesswork is taken out of dinner time for the rest of the week! Sweet.

Here's my plan for this week:
(Three chicken meals because I have too much chicken in my freezer)

Breakfasts: Yogurt, cold cereal, toast
Lunches: Leftovers, Salads

Dinners by Weeknight:
Monday--Chicken and Veggie Stir-Fry (carried over from last week)
Tuesday--Mexican Lasagna (new recipe!) with Salad
Wednesday--Chicken and Brown Rice Casserole (crockpot recipe also carried over from previous week) with Hashbrown Casserole and Carrots
Thursday--Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup (busy night)
Friday--Pizza Night...finally bought feta cheese to try a feta cheese and spinach pizza. :D
Saturday--Mozzarella Stuffed Chicken Breasts with Spinach Souffle

Happy menu planning, all! I'm linked to Menu Planning Monday. :)

P.S. Stay tuned...Later today I'm sharing my momma's AWESOME chili recipe (which we ate TONS of last week)!

  3. Looks like a great week! I plan like this with the exception of cooking for the entire month. I just use the items I purchased the previous month and plan my menu around that. Sometimes we have variations, but not often. :)
