My most exciting news of late? There is only one week and two days left in my husband's semester. This has been such a busy season for us. Last semester was hectic, but it was only six weeks long--we were out of breath by the end, but quick to recover. This semester, however, has been marathon-long. And I think we're all pretty exhausted.
The joy of life as a student family is the break between semesters. And thankfully in my husband's program he has no looming thesis or dissertation, so our break will be truly that--a break. We are hungry for time as a family and with others unhindered by deadlines.
My Perspectives class is wrapping up--only one more class! And wow. I need to update you on what an incredible experience that has been. More on this soon...
We did have a pause in my husband's fast-paced schedule for Thanksgiving. We spent 5 days with my family and Andrew took 2 whole days off from the books. Divine! My mom and I spent Thanksgiving Day in the kitchen, working on the turkey, ham, sweet potatoes, pies, rolls, and spinach souffle. My grandmother came laden with more food. It was a serious feast. Pioneer Woman's Pecan Pie, Money Saving Mom's Pumpkin Rolls, and this delightful Lemon Chess Pie went over quite swimmingly.
I took time this week to decorate for Christmas, which has given the house that holiday winter-cozy feel that I love. I'm lighting candles every night and enjoying the atmosphere (plastic toys scattered on the floor and all!).
Lately I've had two questions toying at the back of my mind. 1) How can we open our home up more to others? and 2) How can I make more time for reading?
I need to take some practical steps to help make these things happen!

It was hard enough being a student before having a family. The break is well-deserved and I'm sure there will be a celebration one all is said and done...or studied and tested I guess I should say. =p Sounds like a yummy Thanksgiving. It is always great be around family.

ReplyDeleteI love your family picture! So cute! You know, I don't know that I have any practical steps to get more reading in other than take your book wherever you go. There are always wait times places, so you can squeeze in a few pages every now and again.

As a home schooling mom I totally understand the value of those breaks...I think I get more excited than my kids do!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great Thanksgiving and your pictures are amazing! I can never find time to read, either...I try on our breaks some but have realized that is just a luxury I will have to enjoy when my children get older!

I'm counting down the days until my husband's semester is finished, too. And I'm trying not to think about his Honey Do List until he's had a chance to relax a little bit. :)
