An 18+ Year Adventure {Try New Adventures Thursday!}

I've been...forgetting things lately. Taking a nap every day. And as of yesterday, eating saltines. To boot, Squishy has a new shirt:

!!!

That's right, folks! Come a bit after Christmas this year, our family will be welcoming a fourth member. We are thrilled and thankful.

It's quite early in my pregnancy (almost 6 weeks along), so I would greatly value your prayers during this beginning time.

So what does 6 weeks pregnant look like for me?

-Super tired. Thus the nap every day. This started around week 4.
-Amazing hyper sense of smell. This was my 1st clue that I was pregnant. If there's mold in the bathroom, I can smell it when I walk past the door (the bathroom has since received a good scrub). If my husband turns off a lamp, I can smell the burning odor of the filament. And I can smell poopy diapers from across the room. Fabulous, I know.
     -A bit absent-minded. *sigh*
-Ligament pains. Sharp quick pains in my lower abdomen if I shift position too fast, especially at night.
-A higher heartrate. My heart normally beats around 70 times per minute...now it's more like 80-100 (my PA school student hubby gets to practice taking pulses for fun). This is due to the extra blood volume that comes with pregnancy.
-As of two days ago, I now keep saltines handy. If I don't eat every 1-2 hours, my stomach starts to feel unsettled. No really awful nausea yet, thankfully.
-Very frequent trips to the bathroom.

The symptoms are rather fascinating and crazy. Over all, I'm grateful for every one because of what they represent.

Looks like #27 on my list has been crossed off! What a gracious God we serve. Now the crazy 9 month + 18 years + rest of my life (God willing!) adventure begins...

P.S. Not sure if I'll be getting to that 5k this year...Joyce was right, I should have tackled that prior to getting pregnant.

  1. Congratulations! Unfortunately I find the forgetfulness does not go away once you have the second baby! Keeping up with two kids seems to have sucked away my brain.

  15. I'm a little jealous--it seems like everyone I know is having babies, but me. But God knows more than I do, and he'll decide when we're ready for babies!

    Congratulations!!!

  16. Yay!!! Congrats! Praying for you. Besides from the title, I knew at "saltines" too. =) I could barely change M's poopy diapers the whole pregnancy. And forget about brushing my teeth...gag! Too funny about the filament. =p What a great adventure!!

  17. Thank you all! Ya'll are so sweet. :D

Joyce, I am totally with you on brushing my teeth!!! That hasn't started yet...but with my last pregnancy just the sight of a toothbrush made me want to gag...daily torture! Hehe...

Katie, your comment made me giggle. I would have been curious, too.

Laura, yes! Before I was pregnant (and now that I am, as well), I try to remember that exactly where God has me is a gift from Him. Being pregnant is a gift from God. Not being pregnant is also His gift (for whatever reason!). He is proactively working good in our lives...not withholding it! Remembering that helped me not get impatient (as I am prone to being).

  19. Congratulations!!! I don't even know you...although it's easy to think you do when you read someone's blog ALL.THE.TIME... but I squealed and threw my arms in the air and said, "Yyyyyyaaaaayyyyy!!!!" My hubby thought I was a bit crazy until I told him that you guys were pregnant. :-) So happy for you. Will definitely be praying for you during this time. What an amazing gift of God!

  25. Congratulations! What an exciting time!

I found that sour things helped with morning sickness. I had good luck with Fresca Black Cherry Citrus soda and Sour Tangerine Altoids. Somehow, it tricked my brain into not wanting to throw up!

Also, when I was pregnant with the second, I put together a basket of quiet 15 minute activities for big brother. He could only pull out an activity when I was nursing the baby, so there was novelty in them, and it was perfect for getting 15 minutes uninterrupted. Google Toddler Activity Kits for ideas on what to put in them. I also used toddler Lapbook activities and Kumon books for tracing, cutting, etc.

  26. @The Saved Quarter: Brilliant! I will definitely have to implement the toddler activity kit thing. Very very smart. :)

Also, I will give the Sour Tangerine Altoids a try!
