Life In Our Neck of the Woods

ginnie2

What an unusual month and a half it has been in our house! A slooooow, busy, hot, nauseated, tired, sweet, precious month and a half.

School: Andrew just completed his 1st year of grad school! He's half-way through! The didactic part of his Physician Assistant program is over and now he moves into a year of rotations--12 month-long rotations in 12 different areas of medicine. About half of the rotations are in our home town. More on the other half tomorrow!

In other words, my hubby is currently on a two-week break! And it's been glorious. Sleeping in (Squishy has been sleeping in until 8 or 8:30 lately and we have been taking advantage of it!), doing things as a family...lots of trips to the pool and splash pad. And more dinner out than usual (I'm still not my usual cooking self).

At a local spring recently--The life-jacket nearly ate Squishy!
Prenancy: Tomorrow I'll be 14 weeks along and in my second trimester! Glory be. Trimester one has been a blurry continuum of feeling sick, tired, and completely unmotivated to do all the things I typically love--reading, cooking, photography, cleaning (ok, I just like the result of this one), blogging, creating. I have been more prone to discouragement than I can remember in a long time--even though I know that this baby so completely worth it and such a gift.

13 week bump. Can't suck it in anymore. Hello maternity clothes.
My little bump at 13 weeks
Two verses have encouraged me for weeks now (please don't skim them--they are so wonderful!):

"...His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence." 2 Peter 1:3

"For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace." John 1:16

That truth has practically held me up. When I'm flat on the couch and the dishes are piled and smelly and I haven't read my Bible, He's reminded me that in Him I have everything I need. It's by Jesus' power and not my own. And there's grace upon grace upon grace upon grace.

In other happy news--I've started to feel the baby move each night when I'm laying down!!!

Squishy: This kid has constantly been making me smile lately. 19 months is an AWESOME age! I have a whole post in my head about him....:) His latest phrases include "Amen!" "Oh boy" and "Toilet"...which comes out like "loy-let!"

Very dapper after a bath...

Oh, and one more thing! We're eating fresh produce from our garden!

I'm hoping that within the next week most of my 1st trimester ailments will be gone and I'll be back to mostly normal. Along with that, we have a huge month-long adventure coming up that I'll tell you all about tomorrow!

Thanks for all of your encouragement during this time on twitter, facebook, instagram, and here on the blog...ya'll are the best.

  2. Thank you for sharing the verses!! Those are good ones for weary-mama days. I have 2 verses taped to my kitchen cupboard door that I am in front of 75% of the time I'm working in the kitchen:

    2 Cor. 9:8 (ESV)
"And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work."

    and Psalm 29:11 (NIV)
    "The LORD gives strength to his people;
the LORD blesses his people with peace."

When I'm in a real Eeyor mood or just feel like I'm going to pull my hair out or can't take another step, I make myself to read them.

About the rest of your post, congratulations on the 2nd trimester :) I hope your nausea and exhaustion eases up quickly and that you can enjoy the rest of your summer! (And your dapper little dude is mighty cute!!!)

  6. Yea for an update. I know you're not yourself and I've missed hearing about your life, this is wonderful (except for the sick weary part)! In fact, I tried to send you a direct message on twitter this morning because I was thinking about you but it seems you have that turned off, and understandably. So glad that Squishy is fun, you're hopefully nearing the end of sickness, baby is moving (YEA!!) you're sleeping in, and spending time with your husband! Whew what a whirlwind.
