Delicious Honey Wheat Bread

You've heard me raving about this honey wheat bread that I've been making and now....
Drumroll....
Here is the photo tutorial (finally)!

The recipe for this is from AllRecipes, so I'll direct you there for the exact measurements, because I have not changed this recipe one little bit. It is perfect just like it is!
Honey Wheat Bread
Here's what you're going to need:

First things first, melt your butter and set it aside to cool.

Then mix the warm water, yeast, and the first part of the honey.

It will look like this after it's mixed:

Then stir in the bread flour.
And allow it to set for 30 minutes, until it is big and bubbly, as pictured bellow.

Add the melted butter, the last 1/3 cup honey, 2 cups of the wheat flour, and the salt.

And mix together.

Dump the dough onto a floured surface.

Knead with whole wheat flour "until not real sticky - just pulling away from the counter, but still sticky to touch."  The recipe says this may call for an additional 2-4 cups of wheat flour, but so far I've always found that the 3 1/2 cups that the recipe originally calls for suffices. When I'm done kneading my dough it looks like this:
Then place the dough in a oiled bowl, flipping it over to coat (it will still be flour-y on the outside). Is flour-y a word?

Cover with a towel and place in a warm spot to rise until it is doubled.

Here's mine after it doubled:

Punch the dough down (I flour my fist before I do this).

Then divide the dough into three parts, and place each part into a greased 9x5 loaf pan. I never get my loaves all quite the same size. :)

Allow the dough to rise again (the recipe says until it goes above the lip of your pans). Sorry, I don't have a picture of the unbaked risen loaves. Also, please forgive the fact that I'm not very good at shaping bread loaves. I'm working on it. ;)

Then place your risen loaves in an oven preheated to 350 degrees and bake for 25-30 minutes. And this is what you get:

And now....oooooh now...eat a slice while it's warm! I like it with butter and honey. Oh. My. Goodness.

I'm planning on winning our neighbors over with this stuff. Addictive. We've decided that we must make the three loaves last all week. We do not need to eat more bread than that!

  10. Finally going to make some bread today. How long do you think it takes to rise? An hour? 10 minutes?

  11. Amanda, I would allow at an hour for the rising time in your "bread making plan." It takes at least 30 minutes. I'll time it next time, for curiosity's sake!

  12. Thanks, Alicia: I just timed it for an hour! :) Then just watched it when rose the 2nd time. I'm a complete bread newbie and really needed your pics to make sure mine was ok! I cannot wait to eat them!

  19. Wow oh wow! Does this look good. We have a bread machine but it seems to always turn out a little to hard and heavy. I've been looking for a simple handmade bread recipe.

  21. I did it, I made it! Well, it's rising, and I'm waiting for it to double now. The "hard" part is done, though!

  22. This bread is rising right now! I went on a search today for the perfect bread recipe for me and from the tast of the dough I think I found it! Yeah! And your blog! Double Yeah! I found your blog through Raising Olives btw!

  23. made it, and the whole family LOVES it. The bread I have been making for over a year is really great tasting, but rather dense...not great for sandwiches that require a top AND bottom slice. I will miss my old bread, but this is the new standard :)
