Revamping The Cleaning Schedule {Giveaway!}

One of the ways I'm starting the new year off fresh is by revamping my cleaning schedule. When my hubby and I sat down to think about goals for 2011, I made three homemaking goals:

1. Continue monthly meal planning.
2. Continue having a monthly freezer cooking day.
3. Figure out a cleaning schedule that works for me.

Previously, my cleaning schedule consisted of a brief list of weekly chores, such as mopping, cleaning the bathroom, vacuuming, laundry. It was far from comprehensive, and lately I had fallen into a "system" of simply cleaning whatever looked dirtiest first and almost ignoring the bathrooms (and the *ahem* microwave) altogether.

So, I was excited when my blogging friend, Christine (from iDreamOfClean) offered to let me review her new ebook, Creating Your Perfect Cleaning Schedule.

In this ebook, Christine walks you through the why, what, and how of creating a cleaning schedule. One that is appropriate for your house and your current scheduling method in general. My favorite part about this easy read is the master cleaning list that has an all-inclusive list of cleaning tasks, broken down into categories of how frequently they should be performed (what a time-saver)!

Using that master cleaning list, I formed my own schedule, which includes daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and bi-annual cleaning tasks.

Um, yeah. I couldn't have done that without some help! :D I used the blank printable chore sheets from Money Saving Mom for plugging the different chores in, but Christine also includes printables you can use in the ebook.

My sheets are tucked into my Household Binder, which stays open on my kitchen table during the day as a visual reminder. And guess what lovely thing happened yesterday? The oft' neglected bathroom received a nice shining! Today, in addition to my daily chores, my tasks are to change/wash the sheets, vacuum, and do a load of laundry.

  1. I'd love a copy! I sort of have a schedule, but it definitely needs re-vamping. One thing that I do though is one load of laundry per day, including the folding and putting away! This helps tremendously! I also make sure my kitchen counters are clean each evening. So much better to begin my cooking for the day on counters that don't need to be cleared and wiped first!

  2. I've only really been trying to use a strict schedule for a few weeks. My main problem is that if I have a day when I can't be home to clean, playing catchup gets tiresome and I'm tempted to just put it off until next week.

  3. I don't have one at all and that's the reason my house is such a mess.

  6. I do have a cleaning schedule, but not for the deep down stuff. Like, I always forget that windows need to be washed and baseboards need to be cleaned and curtains need to be vacuumed. Stuff like that is hard for me to remember.

  18. I don't have a cleaning schedule, but desperately need one. I have a five year old and a 2 month old, and I can't seem to get it done since I have had the baby. My house is really bothering me, so this would be wonderful! Thanks for the great giveaway!

  20. Alicia, I would love a copy! I do have a cleaning schedule, but having just added responsibilities to my part-time work-from-home job, I'm having to revamp it, and could really use some help making it more efficient. As it is, I'm following your sort of schedule, of seeing a dirty spot and making time to clean it, but letting the other stuff go til it becomes un-ignorable. Thanks for offering this giveaway, and as always, I just love coming over to your blog for inspiration and smiles. :-)

  28. No schedule for me but honestly I need one and (more honesty)my heart is totally fighting that. It's been very hard for me to treat being at home as my job as in making a schedule. But I often feel inefficient and frustrated so a schedule may be in order. I'm definitely in prayer about this-wow that's a lot of sharing on a comment ; )

  37. I like the idea of a printable and customizable list. I am always rewriting the same list and just putting a different persons name by the chore...well, on a good week the kids and rotate...then everything gets really cleaned every few weeks and "kid cleaned" other weeks. However...the flaw to that system is that I'm really not content with kid cleaned toilets or the kitchen....I would love some good tips for doing it easily but well that I could teach to them.

  58. I do NOT have a cleaning schedule and I'm falling extremely behind! This could also be due to the fact that I had my third child in December. My house is making me crazy - let alone the extra time/energy that goes into a new baby. I could really use a way to create a schedule that would work for me. I've tried other people's plans but they just never seem quite right. I'd love to win!

  59. I do something similar which is to consider what needs to be done, and how frequently, and then use that to help me determine how often to clean, and on what days. I take into consideration my schedule for the day too, so some days are lighter on cleaning, and others are heavier because I am home more.
