Weekly Menu Plan and Goals (Ooooooooh!)

It's another week, and I'm grateful for it. Particularly since I saw the chiropractor 3 times last week and my back is feeling ten million times better. Thank you all for your work-out advice, too...I'm starting up a workout routine again this week, which will utilize both of my pregnancy workout dvds (a regular workout and yoga) and some walking, now that the weather is cooling off. Whooo-hoooo!!!

Hubby and I woke up early together this morning to start the week off. This past month and a half has been the 1st time during this pregnancy where I've been able to consistently wake up early and have some time with God and planning time. Wow...I had missed it. I know my schedule will change again once our new little boy arrives, so I'm enjoying this time of restful nights and actually being awake in the morning. With the help of a little iced coffee here and there, of course.

During a short planning time this morning, I jotted down a menu plan for the week consisting of:
Breakfasts: Toast with butter and applesauce or jam, oatmeal, cream of wheat, eggs
Lunches: Leftovers, sandwiches (lunch is fancy around here, ya'll)

Dinners:
Monday--Black Beans and Rice with Sausage
Tuesday--Spaghetti with Green Beans
Wednesday--Spicy Potato Soup (new recipe this week) with bread of some sort
Thursday--Baked Flounder with Brown Rice and Spinach
Friday--Grilled Chicken (using this marinade) with Sweet Potato Casserole
Saturday--Pizza Night
Sunday--Leftovers
I typically write out a to-do list each morning, but this morning I was inspired by Crystal to take it one step farther and think about some weekly goals. Here's what came to mind:

Weekly Goals (in no particular order or category):
  • Hang out with my new neighbor
  • Plan and make one busy bag (for after the baby is born!)
  • Read 3 chapters of The Mission of Motherhood
  • Organize bedroom desk (it has been a cluttered mess for soooooooo long)
  • Don't forget to send my mom's birthday card.
  • Plan and do #4 on my 27 before my 27th list (shhhhhh! Don't tell!).
  • Exercise at least 3 times.
I'll update you next week on how I did. In my head, there is a shiny gold star next to any goal that is relational in nature...because that's way more important than my desk getting organized. :D

Do you set weekly, monthly, or yearly goals? I'm curious!

    1. I've been trying to set goals, though some days my goal is to make it to bedtime with everyone fed and at least somewhat clothed. It was much easier while the 2nd child hadn't made her appearance yet, though not nearly as much fun. :)

Honestly, something that changed my homemaking life was in some mommy blog (I wish I could remember which one, so I could give credit), along the lines of, "Set daily goals other than the things that have to happen for the home to function (laundry, cleaning, etc.). If your goals are merely to maintain, you will never move beyond maintenance."

I have business goals to accomplish this week, and a deadline of Friday, so they MUST get done.

    2. Cindy...I totally agree. That's kind of what's on my mind with setting weekly goals--getting my head above the simple tasks that must be done everyday and thinking about some more long term things that I want to be intentional about (like my relationship with my neighbor, husband, etc.). Also things that are easy to "leave out" if there isn't enough time, like reading and exercise. :)

Maybe after the baby is born, I'll just have one or two weekly goals, though! :D

    3. Seems do-able. Just try to do one a day? =) Cindy is totally right about the maintenance. And putting it out there on the blog makes you more accountable too. =p Have a great week!

    4. I'm so glad the chiropractor is working for you!! I think I'm going to go for my first "prenatal" visit tomorrow.

Goals... hmm. Good idea! I have my list of goals for this year, but I look at it every once in a while and think "wow, I've got a long way to go!" I am thinking that some weekly or monthly goals might be a good idea. I was thinking just today that maybe a big goal for next week will be to sort through and organize our 2 deep freezers. If I make it a goal, hopefully it will become more of a priority, and hopefully actually happen?!

I like what the others have said, too... making goals outside of the "normal".

    5. i used to be so organized and to do lists and now as a first time mom, strictly breastfeeding and a sweet baby girl who barely lets me put her down.i cant get much done
i love being a mommy but i miss those times of clipping coupons and planning shopping trips, cleaning, cooking, ect. i know she is only this little for just so long soim cherishing every moment. in a blink of an eye she will be walking/running around and not want to be next to me all day like she is now. so once she is a little more independant i will be back to list making and routine. but for now im happy on t he couch most of the day nursing:) im going to be 27 tomorrow! i think i will make a 28 things before im 28 and have a full year..or maybe 30 before 30 sounds fun!!
      your menu looks delish!

    6. Having goals is usually very motivating to me. I need to write them out. Thanks for inspiring me to do that again.

    7. Your breakfasts and lunches sound a lot like what we have around our house! Lol! We only get somewhat fancy for dinner, otherwise it is whatever I can throw together. I would love if you would share this menu plan on my link-up. I like to show my readers how other people plan their meals in advance. Thank you for sharing!
